How do I choose the best print and paper type for my art?

Finding the perfect match for your artistic style.

For highly detailed art and photography reproduction, the Giclée process is universally recognised as the most effective method. The colours are punchy, the longevity is unmatched, and the results are incredibly consistent.

However, choosing the right paper is where you can truly complement your subject matter and add a distinct tactile feel to your work. At Indigo Giclée, as a Hahnemühle Gold Certified Studio, we offer a handpicked range of the very best archival papers.

For Fine Art & Illustration If you want to replicate the look and feel of an original painting, texture is key.

  • Hahnemühle Photo Rag(308gsm): Our most popular paper. Made from 100% cotton rag, it has a delicately smooth, almost felt-like finish. It holds the deepest blacks and brilliant colours perfectly. It is the ultimate all-rounder.
  • Canson Aquarelle Rag& Hahnemühle German Etching: If you are reproducing watercolours or heavily textured pieces, these papers offer a distinct, high-texture grain that mimics traditional watercolour paper, adding physical depth to the print.
  • Hahnemühle Bamboo(290gsm): An eco-friendly option made from 90% bamboo fibres, offering a warm, natural off-white base that suits warm hues and monochrome prints beautifully.

For Photography Photographers often require papers that offer incredible sharpness, contrast, and a traditional darkroom feel.

  • Canson Baryta Photographique II(310gsm): An extra-smooth satin paper with a barium sulphate coating. It produces exceptional colour density and is perfect for high-contrast photography.
  • Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl(285gsm): A bright white paper with a premium pearl-gloss coating. It provides the sharpest details and a genuine traditional art paper feel, ideal for both colour and black-and-white photography.

Still unsure? Try before you commit. We highly recommend feeling the textures and seeing the print quality for yourself. You can order our Pre-printed Sample Pack containing A5 examples of each of our paper types for just £7 (with free postage and packaging).
