When an artist creates a collection of original artwork, finding the right way to reproduce and share it is an important part of the journey. The colours, detail and character of the original need to be captured as faithfully as possible, while ensuring the finished prints meet the high standards collectors and art lovers expect.
We were delighted to be involved in Square Peg Round Hole, an exhibition by Suffolk contemporary artist Gina Long, producing fine art giclée reproductions of her distinctive collection of abstract paintings.
As a Hahnemühle Approved Studio, we specialise in high-quality fine art and photographic printing, helping artists bring their work to a wider audience through carefully produced, archival-quality prints.
A Distinctive Collection of Original Artwork
Square Peg Round Hole features 32 original paintings, presented as 16 pairs, exploring themes including vulnerability, resilience, individuality, self-acceptance and belonging.
Gina's journey into art took an unusual route. Having spent much of her career in business, communications, campaigning and fundraising, she began painting later in life after being inspired by an abstract painting by Ed Sheeran that had been donated to a charity auction she organised.
What began in a greenhouse studio grew into a substantial collection of work and, ultimately, an exhibition at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
The colourful, expressive nature of Gina's paintings made this a particularly interesting project for our fine art printing team. Reproducing abstract artwork requires careful attention to colour, tonal variation and detail to ensure the finished print remains true to the original.

Fine Art Giclée Printing on Hahnemühle Archival Paper
For Gina's reproduction prints, we used 285gsm Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl archival paper, combining a premium fine art paper with our specialist giclée printing process.
Giclée printing uses high-quality inkjet technology and pigment-based inks to produce detailed, colour-rich reproductions of original artwork. The process offers excellent tonal gradation and fine detail, making it particularly suitable for artwork where colour and subtle visual differences are essential.
The choice of paper is just as important. Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl provides a distinctive pearl finish that complements the artwork, while its archival qualities make it a popular choice for professional artists and photographers looking for high-quality print reproduction.
As a Hahnemühle Approved Studio, we understand the importance of matching the right paper and printing process to the artwork. Every element contributes to the finished result, from the appearance of the colours to the way the paper presents the image.
The aim is simple: to produce prints that do justice to the original artwork and give people the opportunity to enjoy it beyond the gallery.

More Ways to Enjoy the Artwork
Fine art reproduction can open up exciting opportunities for artists, allowing their work to reach people who may not be able to purchase an original painting.
For Square Peg Round Hole, the reproduced artwork also featured in a range of printed items produced by our sister company, Indigo Ross Design & Print.
These included greetings cards featuring the artwork, giving people the opportunity to share and enjoy Gina's paintings in a different format, as well as a bespoke 104-page case-bound hardback book bringing together the collection and the inspiration behind it.
It's a lovely example of how original artwork can be carried through into different formats while retaining its identity and visual impact.
Quality and Authenticity Matter
For artists selling limited-edition or collectable reproductions, quality is only part of the picture. The presentation and documentation accompanying a print can also play an important role.
As part of the wider project, Indigo Ross produced certificates of authenticity for Gina's prints, providing supporting documentation for the reproduced artwork.
Together, the fine art prints and supporting materials helped create a considered, consistent presentation for the collection.
Helping Artists Bring Their Work to Life
Projects like Square Peg Round Hole demonstrate why we love what we do. Every artist has a different style, different requirements and a unique vision for their work. Our role is to help translate that vision into a finished print that captures the qualities of the original as faithfully as possible.
Whether you're an established artist looking to produce a limited edition, a photographer preparing a collection, or an emerging creative exploring fine art printing for the first time, we're always happy to discuss your project and help you find the right paper and print options.
At Indigo Giclée, we combine specialist printing knowledge, carefully selected materials and attention to detail to produce fine art prints that artists can be proud to share.
